What is Clostridium difficile?
It is a bacteria that has developed resistance to most commonly used antibiotics. When exposed to air it forms a spore that allows it to remain in the environment for long periods of time. C. difficile causes diarrhea and more serious intestinal conditions such as colitis. It is the most frequently identified cause of hospital-acquired diarrheal infection.
What is Candida auris?
According to the CDC, C. auris is an emerging fungus that presents a serious global health threat. It is multi-drug resistant, difficult to identify and can spread through sick patients as well as on contaminated surfaces and equipment, putting hospitalized patients and hospital systems at risk for outbreaks.
